Nylon 3D-MID goes into production.(engineering materials)

THE first 3D-moulded interconnect device components made of BASF's new taser-structurable polyamide have been developed by Kromberg & Schubert, an automotive supplier based in Renningen, Germany. Ultramid T 4381 LDS is a partially crystalline, partially aromatic high-temperature polyamide 6/6T reinforced with 10 per cent glass fibres and 25 per cent mineral fillers. This gives a broad processing window for the metallisation of the conductors without damaging its mechanical properties. This material has been further improved in terms of metal layer adhesion and deposition rates and has been optimised for laser direct structuring.
