Movie shows mourning mom was key to 9/11 Commission

Mary Fetchet's life had seemed to be universes away from politicsor publicity.

Then came the World Trade Center attacks and the death of her son.Everything changed.

"I didn't know how to turn on a computer," says Fetchet, a keyfigure in the new "On Native Soil" documentary. "I didn't speak inpublic. I didn't know anything about Web sites [or] politics."

She would learn, as founding director of a group called Voices ofSeptember 11th. She and others pressed for creation of the 9/11Commission.

"They hiked up a mountain that seemed insurmountable," saysfilmmaker Linda Ellman. "These were ordinary people who ... refusedto be stopped."
